Though the Universities do not explicitly mention a cutoff, or they may mention a low cutoff which is too good to believe, you should aim for Verbal higher than 560, and Quantitative higher than 770. Analytical should preferably be 5 or higher. Another important factor is the percentile score which denotes how many students were behind you in a 1 year average. So if the exams in last 1 year have been relatively easy or if many students have done extremely well, then you will have a lower percentile for a high score. If you have done well in tough exams or if students have not been doing very well in last 1 year in GRE, then you can expect to have a high percentile even for a lower score. Either way, if you have not taken GRE so far, try to get as high a score as possible in each section.

I am not sure why everyone wants to know the cut-off when we know the maximum marks that can be obtained in the test. Aim for 1600 !
Lot of people falter when they find out the cut-off, which is obviously lower than 1600. One thing that everyone forgets is that the cutoff number keeps changing every year. As GREGuru mentioned, the percentile is more important than just the cutoff number. So, what is a safe number then to get into a good university... well, 1600 !! Shoot for it and you will never regret ![]() Best of luck Mayank Srivastava General Education for GRE |
